The trace, as a mark of use and time, plays on the ambivalence between presence and absence. Indeed, it can be a witness to actions whose nature and frequency may elude us. The Palais Jacques Cœur holds numerous scars, consequences of its use across various functions (residence, town hall, courthouse, museum...) and epochs. The notion of heritage maintains the paradox between the utilitarian value that contributes to its history and the obligation of its necessary conservation. For example, the Aldermen's Chamber has preserved murals on its walls that enhance its appeal but also increase its vulnerability. In certain places, one can observe gaps that, for this work, have been methodically cataloged. The desire to restore these fragments comes with the necessity of acknowledging their presence. An improvised wall, covered with all these gaps and partially filling the fireplace (whose preservation has led to its disuse), expresses all these precautions.
